Lake Neusiedl, as the westernmost saline lake in Europe, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001 and is protected and managed jointly by the Neusiedlersee-Seewinkel National Park in Austria. The round trip touches the natural values of Fertőzug and Hanság on both sides of the border, so travel documents are required. Starting from Fertőd, we cycle along the EV13 cycle path on the most beautiful part of the eastern shore of the lake, and then in Austria a short detour takes you to the bird-watching tower at Lange Lacke, the largest saline lake in Seewinkel. The EV13 trail returns to Hungary with the Báró Berg Gusztáv bridge, then following the Hanság main canal to the “bridge of freedom”, the Andau bridge. In Hanság, touching the former Esterházy majors, we arrive at the Hanság Wildlife Exhibition in Öntésmajor. Continuing towards Peat Factory, you will find the remaining bridge of the “Hanyi Railway”, then you will return to Fertőd, to Esterházy Castle, on the B10 cycle path.
